The Census
Viet Voices is dedicated to ensuring each and every person is counted in our community by participating in the Census. Every ten years the United States Census helps determine how much money each state and community receives. By filling out the Census, you bring federal funding to our community to support programs like Food Stamps, WIC, Medicaid, Medicare Part B, and school lunch programs.
The Census Bureau is required by law to protect any personal information that is provided. The information is strictly confidential. Your answers to the Census cannot be used for law enforcement purposes or to determine your eligibility for government benefits.
The Vietnamese people are considered a hard to count population in the United States. The last Census ten years ago, our community was undercounted, and that affects the funding toward many programs for our community. Viet Voices wants to ensure that everyone in the Vietnamese community is counted!

What is the Census?
“The U.S. census counts every resident in the United States. It is mandated by Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution and takes place every 10 years. The Economic Census is the official five-year measure of American businesses providing comprehensive statistics at the national, state, and local levels.”

Why is the Census Important to do?
“The purpose of the U.S. Census is to count every resident every 10 years to determine the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives and to distribute hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding for local communities. The data also helps in drawing legislative district boundaries and informs a wide range of decisions by governments, businesses, and non-profits for planning essential services like schools, hospitals, and infrastructure.”
